Cumbernauld Theatre says it cannot stage key event at Christmas


The information will not be fully shocking as no date for the opening of the brand new facility on the campus of Cumbernauld Academy has materialised.

Now administration have confirmed that the festive favorite sadly cannot happen this 12 months.

A theatre spokesperson confirmed: “Due to the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Scottish Government’s four-phase plan for easing the lockdown while exercising social distancing with reduced capacities for venues, the Board of Cumbernauld Theatre Trust has reluctantly taken the decision not to produce Christmas shows this year.”

However it has emerged that the place vacated by earlier creative director Ed Robson has been stuffed – in a short lived joint function for 2 profitable candidates

The spokesperson added: ”We recruited for the place of an Artistic Director in Residence for 2019-20, and a collaborative workforce comprising of Eve Nicol and Paul Brotherston had been recruited.

“However, because of Covid-19, the place didn’t start and due to this fact stays unfilled.

“Eve and Paul are on maintain for the fee for 2021. It is predicted that group session and engagement in taster actions will steer a brand new creative coverage which shall be a framework defining any future creative administrators focus inside the function.”
